TOSTONES RECIPE AND STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Simple step by step Cuban "tostones" (twice fried plantains) recipe that will delight your guests of all ages!
Ingredients:
3 - large green plantains, vegetable oil for frying, glass for pressing down the tostones and Kosher salt
Step 1:
With a sharp knife, cut the ends off of each plantain and score the skins lengthwise to peel away the skin. Cut plantains into 1 ½ inch thick slices.
Step 2:
Fry the plantain pieces until just golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
Step 3:
Transfer with tongs to paper towels to drain.
Step 4:
Place a plantain on a flat surface, and press down firmly with the bottom of a glass until flattened to about ¼-inch thick.
Step 5:
Reheat the oil and fry the tostones to a deeper color and warmed through, about 1 minute.
